Benefits of Natural Latex Pillows

A good night’s sleep starts with a comfortable pillow. The type we use, whether it’s feather, down, memory foam, or something else, contributes to our physical and mental health. It is possible to wake up refreshed, without neck pain, and without a stuffy nose, every morning. This is why we love natural latex pillows.

Natural latex pillows differ from their synthetic competitors in that they are naturally antimicrobial, and the unique composition of the natural latex foam allows for a head and neck position that forms to your body, whether you’re a back, side, or stomach sleeper.

If you’ve been looking for an alternative to synthetic pillows, and are considering a natural latex pillow in its place, here’s what you need to know.

What is Natural Latex?

Latex is a naturally occurring substance that comes from rubber trees. The latex derived from the tree is usually white in color and thick in consistency. It’s commonly used to make rubber, however, latex is also used in paint, clothing, and as a binder.

Natural latex is nearly free from chemicals and commonly used to make mattresses and other bedding, including pillows. Natural latex is collected and processed to create a foam that is highly malleable and features a spring-back quality, making it perfect as a form-fitting place to rest your head at night.

The Benefits of Natural Latex Pillows

Besides being incredibly comfortable, there are a number of advantages to sleeping on natural latex pillows.

Latex pillows are hypoallergenic. Natural latex pillows are great for individuals who are sensitive to chemicals or other allergens. They have antimicrobial properties and will never mold or collect mildew.

Latex pillows offer proper neck support. Back sleeper? Side sleeper? Either way, the loft of latex pillows offer the perfect combination of flex and support so that you always wake up feeling great. No more kinks in your neck!

Naturally latex is resistant to dust mites. Dust mites are a common allergen and asthma trigger and love living in synthetic pillows. Natural latex is an inhospitable environment for them, so you don't have to worry about them hanging out in your latex pillow.

Latex pillows last longer

Latex pillows are durable and last longer than alternative pillow options. They won’t collect dust or mold, so you’ll never have to replace your pillow due to allergen buildup. The unique composition of latex allows them to keep their shape longer, which means better sleep in the long run and a healthy investment. Because natural latex pillows will keep longer, they are a great value in the long run.

Natural latex pillows are chemical free

Once you’ve slept on a chemical-free latex pillow, you’ll begin to notice the chemicals in their synthetic countertypes. This is great for sleepers who are sensitive to smells or have sensitive skin.

Latex pillows are breathable

For sleepers who have difficulty regulating their body temperature while sleeping, natural latex pillows are a great choice, due to the material’s natural breathability. Our Encore Pillow is mixed with a smooth and supportive down alternative, giving it maximum breathability and a perfect night’s sleep.

Natural Latex vs. Memory Foam

Memory foam is a manmade product that was created to mimic the springy quality found in natural latex. Memory foam is dense and heat-trapping, whereas natural latex filling works with its cutting-edge open ventilation design for maximum breathability and temperature-regulation regardless of firmness.

How to Care for a Natural Latex Pillow

Natural latex pillows should always be used with a pillow case, to keep out dust and dirt. If you end up with a stain on your latex pillow, it’s easy to clean. Never put your latex pillow in the washer or dryer or  soak it in water.

To remove a stain from your latex pillow, fill a tub or sink with warm water and a mild detergent. Remove the pillow case and wash separately. Take a clean towel and soak it in the water/detergent solution. Wring out the towel to get rid of excess water. Gently blot your latex pillow with the towel, focusing on the stain. After blotting, press your pillow to remove any water. Lay the pillow down flat and allow to air dry - do not dry in the sun! When it’s dry, cover it with a clean pillow case and enjoy!
